The Game of Life

During the month of November we will take a look at several games…Wheel of Fortune, Charades, and Hide and Seek…and how we play these games throughout our life because the game of life is a scary one! There are so many voices screaming, “This way to success!” So come meet the God who loves, forgives, strengthens, and calls you to play the game of life in such a way that all people can see the mighty works of God!

RETREAT!

This year we will participate in the Conference Youth Retreats. First up is the JR High Retreat from November 14-16 at Eagle Eyrie in Lynchburg VA. Then the SR High Retreat is December 5-7 at the same location.
Joe Torrence, the youth minister at Good Shepherd UMC in Richmond will be the keynote speaker for both retreats.
There will be a live band leading us in praise and worship! We will have the opportunity to meet people from all over the state of Virginia as we engage in life changing and thought provoking discussions in small groups.
If you want to go please let Pastor Ashley know. The cost is $100 per person and scholarships are available.
We will meet at the church at 5:30pm on Friday. Please eat before you come. We will return by 2:00pm Sunday. Please bring money for lunch on the way back.

Tuesday, August 19, 2008

Are you ready to have fun? This years Youth Group Kick-Off will be on Sunday August 24th at 6:00pm. Youth and parents will gather in the fellowship hall for a pot-luck dinner, followed by youth vs. parents games and then a little business. Parents will meet with Pastor Ashley to fill out forms and ask questions while youth will hang out up in the youth room with the college leaders and name our group! That’s right I said name our group…so put your thinking caps on and come prepared with a catchy name and logo for our group! We’ll work on t-shirt designs on the 31st.

September Theme

During the month of September we will deal with issues that often cause division in the Christian community. Our theme “Beyond Belief” will help us wrestle with some very tough questions. In the end we will be able to respect the beliefs of others and tell what we believe. Some of the question’s we’ll try to answer are: “Why do bad things happen to good people?”, “Big Bang Theory, Evolution and Creation…where’s the truth?”, “What’s so special about Jesus?” and “Is it possible for Christianity to really make a difference in my life?”
